      Koi ID

I have a scaleless yellow base with black and white markings. I also have a scaleless white base with black and a tiny bit of orange. Thanks.

The little one appears to be a ki utsuri longfin. The other would be a kikokuryu longfin. I think.

Id say kiko on bigger long fin and ki utsuri also on smaller. Both are pond grade so hard to tell for sure

The small one has Sanke Sumi so it couldn’t be a Ki Utsuri and it also seems to have some metallic sheen to it. My guess would be some sort of Aka Heisei Nishiki. The other looks more like a Kin Kabuto.

Sorry to ask what is probably basic questions to most of the experts here, but I am new and trying to learn about standards before I make my next purchase. I have only one Koi now, and since my ATM receipt says I must be cautious, I'd like to be a bit choosier with my future selections more than "oh, isn't that one purdy"

Russell, in your Teach-n-Learn threads about Koi characteristics and how to distinguish quality skin and conformation, etc. most of the threads were focused on Koi with red/orange and most didn't address the various Koi varieties with "yellow" on them. Would you mind touching briefly on the differences between a Ki Utsuri, Ki Bekko, Aka Heisei Nishiki, etc? Many times you reference that skin should always have a sheen to it and never been dull and flat like cotton. But, what distinguishes between sheen and a metallic skin, which I understand is a negative thing. Am I wrong about that?

I have a yellow one similar to ur with less black and shorter tail fins. I’m thinking about giving that one away. I’m slowly culling my brood
