As long as you are able to learn something from the fish, it isn't a waste of money.
However, whether or not you overpaid for tuition is a different matter...

No I don't think it has "failed". It will darken with age.
Its not a high quality fish to begin with and you can see the beni breaking in spots.

      Hi
Thanks for the replies, i paid around $750 for this koi,
Can you guys show me were the beni breaking apart. Im pretty much new to this hobby and im clueless on everything.
Taro is a nice guy but i guess his a business man first. Since he never told me about the flaws on this koi.
Is the sumi will come back in time?

While sumi can fade and come back, Beni will not. Look at the leading edges of the Beni and when it looks orange on the edge that is often a indicator of weak Beni and therefore loss. I would hang onto it as the sumi may darken again and worth keeping

I think what you are talking about is the Sashi which on a younger koi is to be expected. The beni issues I believe Mr. Rainblood was talking about are in the actual beni pattern, as I've shown in the enclosed pic.

While this koi is not indicative of the quality that Kanno is known for, I do think this koi is worth holding on to to see where it is going.
The beni has held as it was from the original pic, even that tiny little dot on the right above the gill. Give it time. It may yet disappoint but for now enjoy the journey. I expect the gray color to come and go until the koi is about 4-5 years old. If the beni holds and more gray returns, you will have gotten your money's worth.

You said it had failed in an earlier post.
I've seen you change your mind on a number of critiques and it may not be very helpful for those seeking guidance. It can be very confusing especially if you are interpreting what another member has said. The orange areas of Sashi are NOT failing beni. The beni plates are weaker in the areas I showed.

i'll see your link and raise you:

      https://www.koiphen.com/forums/showth...-Shigure/page3

This is where the one I linked ended up. Goshiki aren't necessarily short term investments as evidenced by how long I had that lass and the changes she went through.

If you look at the Beni area on the right side of the Koi in the first picture you will see that there is actually a little less Beni there than in the second picture. This means it actually filled in a little bit over three months.
people like to vehemently defend their purchases and find it incredulous that anything could be better
