As for the sumi conversation: I have always read that often the best shiro utsuri have little sumi showing as tosai. I actually picked two a few years ago that served as a good study. 2 similar sized shiro pups from the same hq omosako batch. I have noticed that the one with almost no sumi now has higher quality sumi. Its pattern is still not up though (going to be sansai this summer). The one with a full pattern still has her full pattern and is still very High quality. I think this data lends itself to Marilyn's technique. Just make sure the shiro has a good body and quality and you're good to go.

As far as showa go, Ive only ever owned two and ive noticed that the sumi doesnt really change all that much. I think in really exceptional examples from certain breeders you may notice a drastic increase in sumi. But ive found showa to be much more stable in the pattern department.

I couldnt help myself either I picked up this little girl?
Nice pick with good skin and body. The pattern is also future safe whichever way the sumi decides to go.

I never owned a Sekiguchi showa so it will be a learning process. I tend to buy showa that turn out to be sumi challenged. I will see if I can break the spell this time.

I hate to mention that I bought 6 or 7 boxes of Tosai that I have not shown yet as well.

i was thinking about that when you commented you had a few breeders pick you a box. I figured you were going to sell them at shows or some grand opening event. I am very happy with the 4 I selected.........for now. and I would be remiss if I did not thank you for your input on my questions doing that; especially the Kohaku.

The additional boxes are from Choguro, Sakazume, Kaneko(Goromo only), Kanno and Marusei.
