Koi floating beneath ice on frozen pond

My pond is currently frozen except for a hole about 2' in diameter for gas exchange. The pond is btwn 1000 & 1500 gallons. We're experiencing a warming in temps from the 20's to the 50's. This morning I found a koi floating near the air exchange hole. It was on its side. I thought it was dead but when I touched it, i saw her mouth & gills move. I filled up a container with the pond water, placed her in it & brought the container inside. Her slime coat is still in good shape.

IDK if she'll make it. She's still on her side but best I can tell, for lack of better terminology, she's in a stasis. I'm letting the water warm naturally & slowly in my basement, which is at 62°. Right now the water is at 34°. I have a mesh cover on the container in the event that she fully revives so she can't jump out and I have a large container where I keep my pond pleco that I can integrate her if she recovers. What can I do now besides wait?

Be sure she has air and she will have to stay inside till the pond warms up.

Good job, you did exactly what you needed to do.

Thanks. I have a bubbler in there for her. She's moving a little more already but still on her side.

Silly question, but do you also have some air going in the pond, somewhere near the hole? Depending on stocking levels, a simple hole is often not enough for gas exchange and it also requires some aeration. Just don't place the air too low so that the koi can enjoy the warmer water at the bottom.

Yeah, there's a bubbler on the 1' shelf. This is the second year in a row that we've had a dramatic swing in temperature and I've had a single fish come out of stasis during it. I'm going to have to do something different next winter to prevent this from happening because I can't rely on a consistent, cold winter happening.

She is swimming normally now so crisis averted. Over the next few days, I'll get her in the larger container with my pleco.

      Thanks everyone for the help!
