My pond is currently frozen except for a hole about 2' in diameter for gas exchange. The pond is btwn 1000 & 1500 gallons. We're experiencing a warming in temps from the 20's to the 50's. This morning I found a koi floating near the air exchange hole. It was on its side. I thought it was dead but when I touched it, i saw her mouth & gills move. I filled up a container with the pond water, placed her in it & brought the container inside. Her slime coat is still in good shape.
IDK if she'll make it. She's still on her side but best I can tell, for lack of better terminology, she's in a stasis. I'm letting the water warm naturally & slowly in my basement, which is at 62°. Right now the water is at 34°. I have a mesh cover on the container in the event that she fully revives so she can't jump out and I have a large container where I keep my pond pleco that I can integrate her if she recovers. What can I do now besides wait?
