Does anyone think a PP treatment in a mud pond would eliminate eye flukes?

Keep in mind this would be in a pond that would have no fish in it at the time of the treatment and there is no biofilter as it's a flow through pond for trout. Could dose as high as needed.

Sorry I know this isn't koi but this is really the only site out there where you folks are great for similar information and there are some parallels.

I don't have a big problem with eye flukes but enough to cause a fish now and then to go blind.
The risk I took was calculated, but man am I bad at math!

PS: Would probably do a salt dip for the trout that come from another pond after the treatment and the PP is expended and the pond is flushed with well water. No PP dip as PP is really rough on trout. I know from experience!

I do not think it will help. Eye fluke eggs are brought in by birds and must go through snails before infecting fish. Even if you could kill all of the snails in the pond with PP, it would be impossible to keep more snails from moving in or to keep birds from pooping in the pond.

This will work then, fish and wildlife does all types of fish including food fish with FDA KY Fish and wildlife took down their chemicals instructions. Fortunately I have the old books but I'm home with the flu.

I found this on pp treatments http://www.aces.edu/dept/fisheries/a.../pdf/410fs.pdf type in fluke in the search.

When I get back to work, I'll scan the pages or send you a book. I work with soil and water conservation. Perfect job for me

Wow Cindy thanks! Very generous of you. You can take your time as this won't be for a few months. Pond probably had up to 10 inches of ice on it right now with about 5 to 8 inches of snow. LOL

will do, I use this little blue book all the time. Talks about algae treatments and invasive plants and all the different problems fish have. My mud pond fish get something that looks like cotton in the winter and it melts away. One of these days I'm gonna catch a couple and scrape and scope. We haven't been to the farm in over a week, both of us have the flu. Don't let me forget. I told my bosses I didn't know when I'll be back. Can't do much with no voice.

Hope you two feel better soon. I understand some parts of the country are being hit very hard with the flu this year. As far as I know not too bad in my area.
