      Asian Arowana

So im a bit confused here. I've read that asian arowana are illegal in the US due to being on the endangered list. However, i've heard that some are bred domestically in the US and sold to buyers. They come with certs and implanted chips. Not sure how the rules apply but if bred locally, would it be considered legal to purchase?

some color/subspecies are illegal to won. the common arrowana is easily purchased and legally owned.

Australian arrowana looks similar to Asian arrowana. I believe it is legal to trade.

I haven't seen this type before, however im sure if you go on youtube, they have gold, red and some violet fusion red. Those look cool, but im almost positive those are illegal to own in the states.

You can find Australian arrowana in CA if you look around.

Yes, I am pretty sure gold and red are illegal. Those varieties are endangered.

Jardini, Leichardti, blue/black, silvers and Africans are legal in the US. States may restrict further though. I believe here in FL only the silver are allowed.

I knew a few people that owned a few reddish one, but lighting is also important to bring out the color when viewing

just got on craigslist. 24 inch silver for $350. i want to get one but have to be careful of health issues. seems they are very sensitive to nitrites and need pretty good water and 72 to 82 degrees is best.

im thinking of a 300 gallon rubbermaid to zakki sieve to a diy shower for one in my garage for now.

Our tradition believe state that when you can raise a healthy and vibrant arrowana then your business is very successful but if some how the fish died then bad luck to come after. So I don’t play with this fish Kevin

Are you still asking your kids to use their cell phone to take pictures of your fish?

My favorite fish shop had a large silver for at least a year. It finally sold and I’m kinda sad I didn’t get to see it anymore. It was massive. They get silvers and blues in all the time. Very graceful to watch swim. I’ve thought about having one someday, but there is so much that could go wrong. I think they are too fragile for me.

@kevin32 if you get one you have to share pictures!
