      Water quality question.

The water coming out of my tap(well) after going through softner at least has 30-40ppm nitrates. Is that a problem? What if anything can I do?

No, that low is not a problem. You can deal with the nitrates by water changes.

If his tap water is 30 to 40 ppm nitrate. How is water change going to help him? He will still be at 30-40 PPM after 100% water change ?

Yes, it will become a problem unless you use a flow through type of set up. However if that is the water you have then that is the water you will have to use.

Starting with 0 nitrAtes your dilution factor would be much greater than starting with 30-40 ppm in your source water. Even a 10% water change per week does not keep up to the NitrAtes if you feed heavily. You will probably be looking at 50% water changes weekly to stay below 100 ppm NO3. Then again math is not my strong suit and somebody like RickF could do it in his head.

      Good Luck
