      concerned about new SU tosai

      https://youtu.be/oIE8HbWsQbg

I got this group of tosai on Friday and the shipment was lost at the airport for several hours on the runway, but I think that additional stress is only secondary to the issue at hand.

The SU arrived with a brown patch near the caudal peduncle on the fish's left side. it is marginally visible in the video above and the color of the sumi also looks funky in this area. The group is in QT currently salted at 0.3%. Over the last day the SU has gotten pink along the dorsal area and appears to be losing scales in the affected area. Treated topically with iodine, but not sure what I am dealing with. I suspected it was a old shipping bruise from coming from Japan.

      thoughts or suggestions welcome.

Have you checked your ammonia level in the qt? Do you have an ammonia binder? Is your filter cycled yet? I would check your water quality first before anything.

Yes, this QT was fully cycled. I had been 'feeding' and heating the system for several months and just recently salted for the tosai. As I noted, the koi came in with the affected 'brown' area.

I am good at water keeping, diagnoses and treatments not so good. As a side, I am also doing 20-25% daily water changes using well water so the quality is relatively constant by the tests.

Is it possible to get a better picture of the injury and veining? They all look pretty normal
      in the video.

I was hesitant to net more than needed given the issue at hand, but may try to get it bowled today. Only the SU is affected. i'll see if I can herd it to the bowl without netting. It is a fast little bugger despite the issue.

As usual, Russ & Marilyn have gone beyond to help me diagnose and try to resolve this issue offline today. I was hoping for some insight on whether someone else had observations from the video. I understand now the video quality is not good enough for that. I did want to acknowledge that I really appreciate that support offline.

They really are the best, and the only people I buy from. If they say its a bruise, then I think its a bruise. But my first opinion of the video was that the area looked "fluffy" like columnaris. But you would have noticed that im sure.

You folks are very kind. Russ has been in touch with Kurt and has sent some medication that may be of help. Kurt, know that we're here as a resource. I just couldn't tell from the video but then my eyes aren't as young as they once were. Might a time for

Btw, part of the protocol for qt that Russ does involves treatment for columnaris. The medication Russ sent to Kurt would also address it.

Still learning as I go but y'all can call me Marilyn

Thanks. I was trying not to bug Russ since I knew he was off to Japan and know the group is good here. I am very appreciative with the help today given how much you two have going on at the moment.

I'll see if I can get a better photo but don't want to add any more stresss than needed at the moment.
