Listen, you're thrilled with her and bottom line is that is all that matters. Posting in the Judge section does open it up to in depth critique and as was requested by one of the posters, doing less than that is counterproductive to the forum. As I mentioned, I had a Koda Goshiki, I enjoyed her while I kept her.
One thing I would encourage you to watch on her is shown in the pics I'm enclosing. I took some stills of the videos provided.
For those that look at a lot of koi, it's apparent from the original shot you provided and is also evident in the videos. I'm taking the time to show you so you can possibly avoid this going forward with future purchases. When a koi bends like that when swimming it's a tell of a weakness in that area. You can even see this as tosai.
Her body is short from lateral line to top of body and her tail is on the weak side. Compare her to the Goshiki with the heavier pattern has more body balance from lateral line up but has a shorter body. It's all a trade off when buying koi and we all have our preferences. With the body line your girl has, keep her trim and avoid overfeeding or you will amplify her weaker tail.
I'll take a couple of stills of the other Goshiki in a few moments.
Yep, she does look much better on video, especially in the 2nd video. But in the 3rd video, more detail of the body and scales were shown, this is where my curiosity and concerns lay... whether the uneven grey base was a demerit, which Russ clarified as acceptable. I have learned something here, thanks.
Okay, shorter body but stronger tail and more body height. It was hard to find an extreme angle on this koi as the shorter but stronger tail made it challenging. You can see that even when she bends, you don't have the pronounced demarkation of the transition area. Ideally, you'd have a longer tail but the same way of moving as this one.
my water is cold right now and most all my koi were curling there tail. seems that is what this koi seems to be doing?
She’s fire, and I think very unusual for goshiki
That’s a perfect picture at a perfect angle for a cover of a book, guessing around 20k range too
Kevin, don't be snarky about Mark. He hasn't even been on this thread. Why you choose to malign him is beyond me. Talk about hating. He doesn't say your name wrong and I don't think he calls out your full name either.
That Goshiki was shown in Socal and as I recall, it was a rescue. I have no details beyond that but maybe a OCKoifan has heard something? It did very well, to the best of my recollection it got GC at one show and reserve GCB at another. It was all the talk because it was a rescue koi.
