      Wood chips can leach oils / toxins into the water. And, yes, I realize the thread may be bogus, but as you mentioned, good answers to a puzzle that may help others.

      Yes some koi that are trained to eat surface pellets will eat non food items that blow into your pond that resemble food.

      yeah true.i was more just kidding as i think the op had a fun time watching all the responses. i googled oil getting into the pond and many had it happen and no body seemed to loose any fish as the oil separates and floats in water.

      i do see my koi suck on leaves at times so I know they do try things out lol

      No idea if the thread is real. I do know people drastically overreact and cause issues. I was once called to someone's place about fish that were violently reacting to parasite attacks. The pond was already treated. I had to tell them the fish were spawning!
