Wowee, very good looking! When do you do your first cull? How on earth will you do it? What standards are you going to use and at what age? do you have an idea how many fry you have and how many you will keep? do you want any more questions? LOL. I'm full of them.

Very nice set of parents Steve. Thanks for the pics. I've seen some koi called karashi that are rather toffee colored, sort of light brown, a little lighter than a chagoi. And I've seen others also called karashi that were rather yellow like a ki goi. I've never owned either, and am not sure if that is a variety difference or if they are all considered be the same variety. From the photos, yours seem to be more yellow.

      Hi Koi Girl,

I did the 1st cull at about a week as the spawn was massive an very fertile so i just cut in half to keep numbers down, then 2 weeks later cut in half again as still way to many, then when they hit 5 weeks they were big enough to cull for defects like Flared gills, bent tails, pinched heads ect, threw more away that were fine also just a tad small again to cull numbers,

Hey Matt, Karashigoi are the Yellow ones but can throw quite a few different colours like you mentioned they would be classified as chagoi i believe theres is also sorogoi (Grey), kigoi (White), ochiba (Patterned), an some others that come from this spawn. So its difficult to know what to keep so I've just kept a few thousand an let grow see what happens.
