Do a search for "Banjo" valves. Many places selling them for around the same as ball valves and being threaded they are re-usable.

I read some reviews and they mentioned these valves are hard to turn . I had bought 3 inch when I built my pond that was also hard to turn . Well recently the handle broke off so I replaced it for a true union valve. However in 2012 I paid about $80 for it but really had to crank it to close my bottom drain supply.

      Grit between the faces?

That is why some installers suggest buying double ended flanges when installed in hard to replace installations.

No I haven't , good to know you stand behind the product and have used it . Based mine on some reviews but maybe what might be hard to turn is easier for others. Just didn't want people to make the same mistake as me .

feels like the handle flexes alot and the 3 inch Is about as hard to turn as my 4 inch spears valve. if you don't open and close that valve often then it is not that big of a deal. when the handle breaks just use a pipe wrench I guess
