      freezing unused bottom drain

Hey everyone. I am putting in 2 bottom drains i made pond 2 ft deeper now its 5 1/2 ft. Deep and took out the bowl shape which adds more water but its getting late in the year and cold ,koi are in an intex pool in yard so im hoping to get underlayment in and liner the problem is i am goin to upgrade to drum filter in spring so i only have 1 cetus sieve with a 4 inch inlet which will run all winter but the other bottom drain has no filter to connect to so im looking for ways to seal the drain off b4 i add water so there will be no water in the koi toilet or 4 inch pvc runnining pond im afraid if theres water in pipe and toilet without movement it might freeze amd burst pipe or toilet. Any ideas

I have 4 bottom drains in my pond and I shut down my pumps and filters for the winter. The bottom drains are plumbed with 4 inch flexible PVC and the water in them where they connect to the settlement chambers must freeze in the pipe because the pipe is above the ground. I don't think the drains freeze as they are under 5 feet of water and the pond doesn't freeze to the bottom. I have done this for about 10 years with no issues.
