      Taro

I got this taro a couple of years ago from Gander, but do not remember the name. I think I have it in one or two of the pots, but it has been growing immensely since the last of summer! I think it and the Mickey Mouse taro are trying to outdo each other.

It is either Okinawa Silver Alocasia Odora or Alocasia macrorrhiza ‘Variegata’ but not sure which. I also may have the spelling wrong. Gander?

Mickey Mouse will get lot bigger than this plant but not as full. I have more than 1 plant in my pots well yall have seen them they are packed I am not even sure how old the oldest ones are but I do know that the one with yellow and green leaves is the oldest one I have.

Gander, what was the name on the other one? I am pretty sure that it did not survive. It might be stuck in the middle of these, but I believe it died a few weeks after I got it.
Interestingly, some of the leaves on the taro pictured are solid white.

The name given was Okinawa Silver Alocasia Odora and here is a pic of one of the solid white leaves. You can see a second smaller one to the left of the big one. in the first pic.

Yeah I love the white leaves but they wont last. I bought a Portora this spring that just trough off white leave and the bulb was large but once they cut it off the main plant that supplied cloraphyl it could not live. The one with the yellow splashes was Alocasia gageana variegata aurea.

Gander, Alocasia gageana variegata aurea did not survive. Everything I have is either The Okinawa Silver of Mickey Mouse that are variegated like that.

Good luck, Gander. Glad you still have some that have not reverted back and you can save them.

Gander how do you winter the Taro over in Oklahoma? I have bought some two summers in a row and they do survive the winter in the pond. I am looking for plants that I can leave in the pond year round but are not invasive. What do you suggest? The pond is 20x10x3 with a liner with Koi. Thank you for any help.

I dont leave any Taro in my pond year round. I do leave Taro in my Stream and the runners will survive as long as they stay under the moving water, the main bulbs will rot though, colocasia will stay under the water in my waterfalls box also as long as the water is moving, There are some Alocasia that winter over in the ground here you just have too find the right variety.

Gander, here is a recent pic of the taros that I mentioned at the start of this thread. This pic was taken a week ago, and the plants have just started coming out this spring. They are in the greenhouse, however.
