Please review my plumbing plan for small pond

      Hi,

Please take a look at my plumbing and equipment and let me know if you think this is overkill for a 800g water garden with goldfish

      Equipment:

      Oase no niche skimmer
      MIDI sieve
      3" BD
      Pressurized filter : https://www.amazon.com/Best-Choice-P...ds=pond+filter
      Sequence 1/8hp pump 3200gph
      DIY bakki shower
      16" waterfall weir

My pond is 800g with 8' x 4' x 3' with shelf on one side for plants, other side will be vertical.

      Attached is the plumbing plan:

      My question is
      1) If I went overboard with the MIDI sieve (havent bought yet), and bakki shower in a water garden setup .
      2) If I go with the sieve, should the Skimmer line go before the sieve or after the sieve?
      Best regards

*The skimmer will be near the sieve, on the opposite side of the waterfall.

I would do away with the plant shelf. Make all sides vertical. Use hangers for the plants. I don't like the pressurized filter you have chosen, junk in my opinion. A shower is nice but probably overkill for your pond. Have you looked at the DIY Sand/Gravel filters. I would run both the skimmer and BD through the sieve, then pump, UV, S/G filter or a rue bead filter like a small GC Tec, then to the waterfall.

I would also recommend ball valves on the bottom drain line and on the skimmer line to regulate the amount of flow for each line. Your bottom drain is going to out-compete your skimmer line so your skimmer will not skim the surface like it should. Also, it allows you to close off the pond for repairs or upgrades to your filters. Go with good quality valves especially the 3" one. Cheap ones become very difficult to turn.

      Many have recommended these: http://www.supplyhouse.com/Red-Flag-...ion-Ball-Valve

I use Georg Fischer valves. They're expensive, but you can find deals on eBay.

Would a knife valve be as effective as a ball valve? Didn't know a 3" ball valve is that expensive.

Knife valves should not be used to regulate flow. They are either open or closed. Knife valves sometimes leak. Ball valves are much more reliable.
