Breeders? I have found that the bloodline has a lot to do with how a fish will develop.

Both turned out better than I expected after the 1st season. I didn't think the beni on the kohaku would hold but it did.

Thanks for the 2016 updates! What are the sizes at that point (sorry if you mentioned but I missed it).

Sorry I did not ask about the breeder. What 1st year hobbyist knows to ask about breeder, right?

First year observation is bright Beni at this age tend to cool off? Softer tone can ramp up to become more intense?... unless they're from SFF? LOL

Tomorrow I'll bowl them up for current photos.

Sanke I believe was 17"(OCkoiFan can fact check me). Kohaku wasn't measured, but I'd say 15"-16".

i don't think your kohaku will ramp up beni, maybe stay a softer beni with the luster improving some. still a great fish especially in early years of koi keeping. im still a 5 year old koi newbie lol

Thoughts on growth potential? Is the sanke's head consider small? Short body? Male/female? Think sumi will break because it came early?

Kohaku confirmation seems better, what would be the improvements to look for? Male/female? Any guess on its size? I know it depends on husbandry?

btw, I grow them with 40+ koi in a 1400 gallons pond. I'll get some lecture on this, but that's another thread.

40+ koi is to many to 1400 gallons. but I'm way over that lol. hard to say on growth. my 4 best fish from koda farm haven't grown more than an inch while my mukashi from sakai was 5 inches at best when i got early spring and now 14.5 and still growing going into colder temps

probably should reduce fish load as the chinitos are getting bigger. then each fish can get more buffet
. im terrible at getting rid of koi though. koi hoarder

one of the platinum is now a mukashi and female. breeders don't let females through so how could it be. lol my coworker got fish from same dealer and at 2 years old they spawned. now can a male spawn? easy to say evert fish is male and then defend what you said.

not aimed towards you Mitch. my female goshiki was slammed amd claimed male. Kevin starting feed his koi properly and some eggs belly shower up on my goshiki and also 5 year old ugly ogon

So a year later they both bulked up nicely. I remember telling you that the beni is stretched due to grow and normally the contestants feed color foood to improve the look. The kohaku is glossy and looks clean. Maybe it get promote to triple AAA pond grade now right KoiRun? Both started to look like girls.

Yup, I remember that conversation. But feeding Saki Hikari Deep Red to 40+ pond mutts is too much for my budget. LOL

As for promoting out of mutt status? Probably too soon to say.

This year I fed JPD, very happy with it, but a pound a day is still too much $$. I need to thin my herd and go down another notch on koi food pricing.

Andrew growout koi are not pond grade or mutt. Just be patience and there gotta be a few better qualities with the early admission. Catfish whisker’s chagoi was one and won big prize @ Gardena. The big monster green chagoi last show if anyone can recall
I will stick with my statement that they do alright. Maybe a video too for the full enjoyment please
