      Goldfish plans

I am thinking of setting up my first goldfish tank. A 55 gallon with a 75 gallon canister, 2 75 gallon sponges and two other large sponges. I like to overfilter a bit. I still haven’t decided on stocking and such.

I put mine in the bedroom. A mistake. Even with water changes and good filtration, it has a smell.

I have a 150 gallon cattle trough in the basement with Wakin, I love them. Saturday I'm putting the new liner in their pond and outside they go.

What was your filtration? I am thinking 3-4 in a 55 gallon

What kind are you planning on getting? To me that makes a big difference on how many you’ll reasonably be able to have and for how long.

A variety of fancies, most likely fantail, ryukin, lionhead and Oranda

You could get one of each and maybe make it a while like that. But plan for a bigger tank or putting them in a pond in the future. Your filtration should be just fine with regular maintenance and water changes. But once they are close to adult size( 8”+) a 12” wide tank will be pretty cramped.
At that point moving up to a 75 would give you 18” wide, but still a 4ft length like the 55.

I am leaning more towards 3, we will also see how big they get water quality plays a huge role but so do genetics . I am not really sure I can go bigger so I have to plan for this being permanent housing.
