good value for the price but its just a pond fish and a not very good example of a goshiki.
$25 is a cheap first hand lesson, so learn what you can from it and then move it along
I'm not paying much for the koi. I'm confused does a descent koi have to win shows? and where do we draw the line of pond grade fish?

I think the point being made is your got your money's worth and we are happy for you but this is in the serious critique section. That means people critiquing should be evaluating based on show koi standards and ideals, right?

So it's a Ginrin Goshiki and should be critiqued accordingly. That is why I was surprised it was the bottom koi in the bowl because, to me, that pic shows no Ginrin nor the pattern as it appears today. I'm not saying you're not being honest, I'm just surprised it went through the transformations it did.
Still learning as I go but y'all can call me Marilyn

I'll say something when I feel I have something worth saying. I'm not a fan of flapping my lips just because they are there.

makes sense thanks for the input. I wanted to show what this fish has become. it did not show much gin at all for over 2 years. then it became more gin recently..has been fun to watch it.

most people that have show quality fish probably.dont need to ask how good there koi are lol

i agree, you got a good deal for $25.
i define pond grade as a colorful fish that may or may not fit into a variety...nothing particularly special...just colors in a pond.
winning or losing shows doesnt define/change the quality level of a fish.

fair enough. to many this koi is awesome. it's not a mutt but not good enough for serious critique lol

I also think that this is not the same fish. I have never seen changes as extreme as this on any Koi...ever. Aside form the four points I have noted there seems to be absolutely no Gin Rin on the picture of it from the tub. The amazing pattern change would be impossible, in the first place, but going from a non Gin Rin to a Gin Rin Koi is just as impossible. I don't believe you have the correct before picture.

Thanks Kevin, I appreciate you following up. People use these threads to learn about koi and what can happen. It's important they know a pattern change like that and turning into Ginrin really doesn't happen.
