      Omosako Shiro Utsuri

Any thoughts on this one? Bought a couple of days ago, but not yet received as the Koi Farm is submitting the fish to a Bangkok Koi Show in early November.

Good luck at the show. Is it being shown under your name or the dealer? If you already purchased it, I would demand it show under your name with their name as the supplier not owner.

Yes, will be shown under my name. I've bought from the dealer a couple of times previously and he's already asked for my details for the show. I liked the 'L' on the head. My wife is Lynda and hope to convince her I bought it for her!

Do you mean "Omosako"? I was asking if "Amosako" was a NEW breeder as I'd never heard of him.

You could get pipped at the post with the pattern.

Im no pro but here are my opinions- Its a small/young koi so pattern matters a lot. The pattern is interesting and balanced. The body line is really nice too. It makes this fish very easy on the eyes right now. My guess would be male, weather that's a good or bad thing is really up to what you like. Shiro utsuris are really about the sumi if you ask me. The sumi is darkest around the scale. This is not what I like to see when I evaluate sumi. I like when the sumi bleeds up in the center of the scale which sometimes looks like large dots. Its hard to explain but you can see it here http://www.omosako.com/process/11/snap1.html

I also like to look for underlying sumi that looks blue, but still the center of the scale should be darkest - you can see it on this tosai's shoulder http://www.omosako.com/process/29/snap1.html

This is how my SU developed. Took years.

      Sumi

Since we're on the topic of Sumi. Here are three Omosako shiros , one of which I rehomed. Which one has the best sumi quality?

As an amateur, I would pick the bottom one, having 'my favorite' sumi and pattern.

Sumi is something that is almost always changing. Its not always apparent to me what its doing and how it will finish. Also, the picture quality makes a big difference. All of these pictures have very different lighting conditions. That being said, the 3rd photo shows strong indications of good sumi. The sumi directly over the spine halfway between the head and the start of the dorsal fin. Also, the sumi that is up right now looks like glossy wet ink. If im comparing 3 pictures, not necessarily three fish , the third photo is my pic.
