However it is tough to see some of them.

Yeah that thing looks like one mean pellet eating machine. Too bad there's a lot of competition.
Thank Rainy for singling this out.

Oh the love for Rainster is showing today

My point is that I think it is a myth that tosai can't be sexed fairly accurately because how in the world do they all end up being males

Yeah a dealer around here who goes to Japan yearly says when he brings back tosais (for the masses), he can bet they are almost 100% MALES. So I can be as sexter too! (Sorry to blow you bubble - but hey we now all know what a mukashi is). Better to buy fingerlings?

Not only did they get the gender correct, but seemingly the value as well. Not a one of them looks like it is worth more than what was paid for it. One might think buying 40 tosai that one of higher value might slip in accidentally. But no.

If a person had a 1600$ annual budget to buy fish, what is the best choice?
40 koi at $40 dollars? or one for 1600$?

or, wait and buy every other year at $3200?

Breeders can sex fish much earlier and more accurately than us dummies. It is their trade secret.

wait every 4 years and get a $6400 koi. I guess it all depends on where you are at. if you have an intex pool to rdf then many tosai is fun. I lost my nice 23 inch yami from my mistake and also my ochiba. so that ruined my nice ones for the year. need to get my main pond done and then the fun begins.

i got 50 tosai and also 4 more from koda. also 3 from pskoi guy. gave some of the 50 to friends.i did not take pics of the 3 from koda. the tancho goshiki was from koda and looks bad now. I'll give it a chance since it is tancho for now
