Went down to the garage to do a water change like always...and everything was full of eggs Can Spring Be Far Behind
They will be two years old in May...first time this has happened. I sure don't want any babies in that small tub with 6 big 'uns.
Hopefully, I cleaned it well and got them all. Tiny eggs so hard to tell. My eyes aren't what they used to be

Wow! I haven’t had any goldfish or koi spawn yet. I don’t want any babies from either group. Mostly because I too do not have the extra room for them. Hopefully in your case the others will eat up what you missed
Before I got a male for my female green terror cichlid I was feeding her eggs to my goldfish and koi. They couldn’t get enough! I figured that was better then them going to waste. Lol

Well, it’s not officially spring yet and the weather reflects that. But.... we are past the harsh negative temps and staying in the 30’s and 40’s now. I’m happy to report that everyone has made it through their first winter! Both ryukins have stayed actively swimming around with the others and look good from what I can see. The water is still dark, but as soon as I can I’ll be getting things cleaned up and get the filter running again.

My QT tank has some of the coldest winter temperatures and the 3 orandas in there have been actively swimming all winter. They were active even when the koi were sitting relatively still on the bottom.

That is interesting. I really expected that all the fish would sit on the bottom all winter. Instead they stayed near the top/middle and were actively swimming around. This fall I’ll have a better cover for the pond and hopefully will be able to keep the filtration hooked up.
My husband and I ideally would like to cover it with a greenhouse. But finding one the right size has been a challenge.

Chiming in on the pond heaters.

I have two de-icers. They only come on when the water temp drops below 42-degrees and once the water reaches 42, it goes off. It keeps the ice off the pond without costing a lot in electricity. Amazon sells them, amongst others. I paid around $25 per heater.

I use two. I have them on separate breakers in case one of the breakers goes off, the other can keep the ice off the pond.
