That is the skull bone you're seeing. This is quite typical of black based koi when young. As the white begins to thicken/mature, chances are this will be covered with white. I do see the black dot within that V on the head which indicates black may appear more as the fish gets older. The sumi on this fish is of a linear type like a Kumonryu but I don't really understand the info you posted. Who is the egg layer (female) and who are the male(s)?
