      Slugs...are they koi food?

I have a compost pile in my backyard and when I turn it there are usually loads of night crawlers which I always toss into the pond. The big fish love them...
My fish range from 4 inches to 26 inches... Lately, I have seen a huge amount of slugs, are they koi food? I don't know if they are safe for the Koi. I know that box turtles eat them but.....

Mine had issues with 357's but did ok with 22's.

      All kidding aside.

I have given slugs to my koi for many years with no issues. Pretty much have given them about any bug I could just to see if they would eat it. There favorite that I have found is the beetle grubs found in soil. Fallowed by worms and slugs.

I cringe when I see mine chewing on one only because I know how disgusting they are on land.
Mine seem to play with them... eat them and spit them out, eat them and spit them out.... but most
I see are on the bottom waiting for the BD's to suck them up.

Mine are so finicky they won't even eat worms. Honestly, I don't know how they got so big, with me only feeding them once or twice a day.

Personally, I couldn't even pick them up to throw them in to see if they liked them!

I tossed a bunch of worms with a few slugs, after a few minutes just a few slugs were floating. The koi seemed a little apprehensive, maybe slugs are an acquired taste!!

This. I uncovered a possum nest under our deck and it must have had 300 empty snail shells in it, each with a small hole punched in it.

I know I had a koi once that absolutely loved snails, would slurp those critters right out of their shells. But in a pond of about 13 koi that one fish was the only one that ate them, so yeah, probably acquired taste.

Yes, I had forgotten it took a few times before they got used to eating them. And then they started chowing down. I also experienced this with worms as well. Those large beetle larva though. WOW, I don't think they even got wet.

I think I have the picture. Use to feed the ducks tomato worms. I don't know why they just didn't eat them. They had to tenderize them in their bills first. Yuk!
