Hey guys I had a guy build me a bass pond around 2 acres that's 30' deep. I'm starting to think I want it to be a koi pond now. Is this too deep?

Is your goal just to release and enjoy some large koi into this pond or something else? I have close to a 1 acre mud pond with several large koi in it. After several years I have yet to find one baby fish with color survive. With large bass, catfish and bluegills also in the pond baby fish with bright colors make easy snacks. For fish to survive I must release fish over 10 inches.
Too large and deep of a pond to grow koi in commercially unless using nets.

Good read
I'm in Folsom. I was told by the local breeder that 3' was deep enough for Louisiana ponds.
With that being said, mine was about 4.5' deep and I had no issues.
Just remember, the deeper you go, the harder it is to seine the pond to catch them.
If the sides are sloped, you'll have to deal with Herron, Egrets and raccoons.
I had spawns every year and produced some babies that won at every Show. You just have to keep one tool if the predators.

So I dont know if this helps you at all, but I live near the deepest lake in my area, its pretty famous. Its called Lake Ronkonkoma. Its 65 feet deep at its deepest. If you walk the shore, 5 out of 10 times you'll see big ol' Carp cruising the shallows. Koi can easily live in likes with depth. Catching will be difficult though.
