      3 new koi

Looking for opinions. Was inspired by another's post with the most beautiful beni kikokuryu. I have very limited selection here in Houston, but went to check out a Craigslist ad and was very pleasantly surprised. Owner purchased his breeders from japan. These are 3 of this year's spawn.

I believe I have a shusui, ginrin chagoi, and beni kikokuryu.

Actually the shusui is a Doitsu Kujaku as it is metallic. The other is a GinRin Ochiba if the sides have gray on them. Rather hard to tell for sure from those pics and the third one, yes, Beni Kikokoryu.

I can't quite tell if there is grey on the side. I'll keep an eye out. Any comment on their quality? Any thing wrong that I should notice or anything positive I should know to look for in the future?

      Thanks!

Depends on the quality level of koi you're interested in keeping. These are pond grade with not a lot of upside, but okay to learn how to take care of koi for starting out.

Can you point to issues so I can understand what keeps them from being more than pond grade or what would be considered an upside?

The colors are weak and even though it's a subjective thing, there are no patterns that would be considered good. Also, on the metallic one (Kujaku) the metallic sheen should be bright thick and even throughout, especially on the head and fins. Try googling the variety names and you should be able to see some pics of what would be considered better.
