Wow, Body and pattern on that kohaku scream "big fish" to me. I dont like the head shape. I feel like the nose is to close to the eyes and is a lot lower than the eyes. Everything else about her screams quality. The beni looks extremely thick. Love the showa, its a bit front heavy but that can be a blessing if you dont overfeed (something im not doing well with these days lol) The sumi looks to be of high quality. Right in between the end of the dorsal fin and the start of the last hi plate on the left flank, sumi on shiroji; that looks excellent. The hi, to me looks ok. Some areas looks a bit sketchy but I think it will do well. I am being critical because you asked but Id jump at the chance to purchase these at a fair price. The kohaku is my favorite right now because her body reminds me of some truly jumbo adults ive seen. Congrats on the purchases!

Personally I am not so sure. The beni still has sashi on it while the kiwa is still far from finish. For a jumbo tosai she is quite big at 45cm so hopefully it can grow fast enough before beni fail in soft water environment. I am unfamiliar with how Maruyama beni develops over time but so far after a month of quarantine in dealer pond at 80F watee temperature, the color and shine of the beni seems to be holding up.

Usually a hanasuke pattern where the beni reaches the nose makes a koi look short nose than it is. If you look closer between the showa and the kohaku, the kohaku actually has a tip of mouth farther from the eyes. The head of the kohaku is also wider.

The showa is smaller of the two and hope to get that old school showa pattern. It has 2 scales of beni in the middle that had been damaged while still in breeders facilities and hopefully will return back.

It could very well be the pattern making it look shorter. This is splitting hairs really. The fish has a big head, which bodes well for the future. Its just not my favorite shape. But like I said, it is my favorite of the two
