      GREEN Showers????????

Makes my back hurt just looking at what eventual clean up will consist of. Probably very effective and earth wise. What's your opinion? Anyone ever seen this in Japan?

Do they do a massive once a year clean up or remove a little at a time throughout the season?

I don't believe they ever need cleaning. Look at the flow rate through there! I think someone told me one time they were orchid plants but I don't know. You never see them in bloom!

at the high flow rate maybe these plants don't harbor parasites like In pond plants. momatarro seems to have it figured out with what works well.

As he is the originator of the Bakki Shower system with Bacteria House Media, I would say he has it figured out. Oh, and the fact that there's most likely over a million US dollars of fish in that 50000 ton pond, he'd better have gotten it right!

I don't think those plants do much of anything worth while in terms of bio-filtration. Probably much more to do with looks and perhaps provide shade to the underlying media. What ever it must take quite a balancing act to keep those plants alive unless they are hardy enough to compete with the 'bacteria house' for nutrients. It is interesting to me though how (if it's true) that they never need cleaning and if they in fact can harbour parasites (bacteria / protozoans/ worms etc.). Showers are looking great to me. Seems never to clog-up, very efficient and never(?) harbours parasites. I wonder what they use as pre-filtration. Graham uses some sort of shower with plants and algae the he never pulls apart to clean: YT @12:30

Looks like they've gotten rid of the plants or they've all died. Here it looks like the shower is looking idle with what looks like new media.

If you look at the two setups pictured they are similar but not the same units. So no direct comparison. The uTube video is also part of commercial advertisement for shower products and its super duper media so it's understandable no greenery is shown. There is a posting date for uTube but no indication when the video clip was actually created. So no conformation if it is is an old or new setup image. I have no idea where any of these units are located.
