Charles wrote last night and said he had not had a chance to check the site for errors after the
last update on the server but should have time today to take a look at it. Stay tuned...

Hello. May I ask a question? I only have goldfish. I know the Ryukins are a side view fish. The telescopes are more top view as symmetry is important with them. Is there any set classification of which variety should have photos taken from the tops and which ones should have photos taken from the side?

Yes, under the Goldfish Show Rules, section 4, part E. lists:

      • Oranda (Side View)
      • Ryukin / Fantail (Side View)
      • Pearlscale (Side View)
      • Ranchu / Lionhead Top view (Top View)
      • Ranchu / Lionhead Side view (Side View)
      • Telescope/eye growth (Side View)
      • Single Tailed (Side View)
      • Top view other Tosankin, Wakin, Watonia, Top View Oranda, Butterfly(Top View)
      • Special Varieties (Side View)

      Hope that helps!

Thank you. I did not see that. And one more thing if I may... What counts as a "special variety" goldfish? Or is that determined by the benchers once the fish is entered?

Now we're getting over my pay grade.
But my guess is it'd be up to who's benching the fish... and "special" maybe means one that
      doesn't fit in another class?

Rich has benched for us in the past, maybe he or someone that knows for sure can help.

Special varieties would be anything that isn't listed already, such as a pom pom if you wanted to enter one as a side view rather than top.

Thank you! Telescopes really should be top view as the symmetry is very important in both the tail (especially for butterfly telescopes) and the eyes. Uneven eyes can't be seen from the side view very well. Good change. Looking forward to the show.

Gotcha. Mainly I was asking since I have fantails which usually go into that special area.

If you enter it as Special, and I can't figure out another category that it fits better, then it is Special.

      Are you bowling them?
I just put one in a rectangular tub I got from work and have glued a tape measure on the floor. I take a few dozen digital pics of each and then
pick one that has all the details needed.

Yes I used a round bowl with extremely small number printed on sewing adhesive measure tape
I need a tub for sure with better bold prInt numbers

Or for that matter I've seen others just write with a permanent marker right on the bowl bottom in inch increments with large numbers.
It's really just to give the judge some reference to the size... it doesn't need to be perfect.

I played around a few days ago with trying to get good bowl photos and honestly, it's TOUGH! Even with a polarized lens I managed to get reflections on the water and of course the fish wouldn't stand still.

I usually take about 50 to get one worth keeping.

Only a few days left before we'll be accepting entries!
We put a link on the WWKC website too so you can always go there to find it too:
