New 3 tosai for 2017 grow out

      Any comments will be appreciate.
      Here is a video today
      https://youtu.be/dpFsqdsi5Vs

Got em from Andrew contest about one month ago
      Tancho and kohaku 14cm
      Shiro utsuri 17cm

They all gained weight and bulked up (thanks Seaside for the foods)
Hoping to transfer the best one to main pond in 6-8 weeks for the cut.

i see but dude you can better than that. i feel you need to reach out to Russ or likewise. just my .02 and im learning along the way as you are. the kohaku seems best but still shirogi and sheen are nothing impressive.

I'm not knocking the fish but just nothing has a wow factor ....

I probably would not pick the tancho either. Not because of the tancho shape/placement but because of the body.

i think the tancho get too much food from the kohaku. Body got short and chubby from the feast. I'm trying to feed em differently to see if I can change that

Good body on the shiro- what i have been told, and from what ive noticed, its held true is : Look at the motogoro of a good shiro utsuri and it will tell you a lot about the state of the sumi on the body. If the motogoro is a small part of the fin or close to the body, the sumi is still coming up and will cover more of the body in the future. If the motogoro takes up most of the fin and still needs to "tighten" then the sumi on the body is on its way down meaning it may lose some body sumi.

Black and white is just like gamble
So I went and took 2 more shiro and a yami
Pattern is not ideal and either balance but I like to see them developing

Like OC, I am learning, when selecting cheap tosai, to select for conformation, skin, and quality of color, before Pattern.

The breeder kept the perfect round Tanchos with good conformation, skin, and quality beni for grow out or to sell at much higher price.

While a Tancho is selected for the depth of red color on the head and the placement of the pattern piece, there are three acceptable shapes and this is one. It's just that a really round one is quite hard to find with good placement between the eyes and no color onto the shoulder without "winter work" being done on many.

Some should just read posts and not comment/critique as they really don't have the ability to see what's really there, especially based on a picture of a fish. If you constantly try to find perfection, you will never be satisfied with any of your fish. This is an artistic hobby, and as such, there are static, stoic and abstract designs that will satisfy most everyone. If it just isn't your "cup of tea" then say that. Don't post that you don't see the quality that could actually be an oversight by you, the poster, based on lack of time in the hobby or just being uneducated for rating high quality fish. That's more insulting to the OP and it isn't founded in fact!

There's also quite a bit of distance between you two, knowledge-wise as he's had a few years of growing out fish to learn/understand what's what!

Also, when you state that your fish are from Sakai, it would be most helpful to others to describe further that it is Sakai Fish Farm or Toshio Sakai/INC Koi Farm. They are two very different/distinct breeders/bloodlines even if they've used fish as oyagoi from one another over the years.

No, the breeder is NOT in Seattle. That is a dealer known as Pan Intercorp. They specialize in fish from Saki Fish Farm in Hiroshima Japan. Russ is the US distributor for Isawa Nishikigoi Center in Isawa Japan from the Toshio/Toshiyuki Sakai. Your last post is a prime example of what I was referring to.
