      Skimmer Media Cleaning

I upgraded the stock Savio filter media in my skimmer and the new stuff is more dense and hence harder to clean than the stock media. Any quick tips on cleaning skimmer media as the new stuff definately clogs much faster and has to be cleaned more often.

      Thanks

I tried the green and blue Matala but decided to go with a more dense polyfibre material. The green and blue were not catching a lot of the finer algae.

Consider not putting matting in a skimmer. Let the basket catch the big stuff like leaves. Let the mechanical stage filter in the filter pit handle anything smaller.

Well, that's part of the issue. A skimmer really isn't designed for trapping fine particulates. Like McAsan said, leave that to the mechanical filter stage within your system. Also, if you have that much algae, there are other issues that should be addressed as well to help eliminate the root cause - the algae!
