I'm not saying you're wrong so please don't take it the wrong way but I thought to be classify as gin rin it have to have three row of gin rin scale. I think we have to wait for Mike or Russ to help us identify. I do like the gin rin scale it seen really cool.

I by no means consider myself an expert but i do believe thats just the scaleing of certain types of doitsu as seen in the picture below. Cant find the name of that exact type of doitsu scaleing but thats my guess.

This koi is a ginrin doitsu hajiro. Since it is doitsu, it does not need to have three rows of ginrin scale to be a ginrin koi.

I was thinking that too.... how does one tell the difference between a hajiro and a mostly black kumonryu ?

If you notice that the pattern changes substantially, where some black turns to white, then it is a kumonryu. Kumonryu have unstable patterns.

Whatever the final disposition is, please keep us updated with pics. I think this one is unusual and a quite appealing contrast in a pond.

It can not be a Kumonryu as Kumonryu do not have any scales.

It can not be a Hajiro as a Hajiro has to have a black head.

It could be a Hageshiro though.

No need to worry as this Koi is neither.
