      Surviving a late snow/cold

With an extremely mild winter many plants got an early start. I have hydrangeas leafed out, Miss Kims lilacs in full bud, Lilies 6-8" tall, Hosta and elephant ear out of the ground, clematis loaded w/ buds and what wisteria survived a mild frost over a week ago is in bloom now.
Friday and Saturday (beautiful and warm) I spent the day hauling mulch, mowing lawn, cleaning pond filters and covering plants in an attempt to save them from this..... Snow and below freezing night temps until at least Thursday PM. With a couple nights hitting the upper 20's I'm not sure if my efforts in covering will save all of them but I had to try, will know friday when they all get uncovered.

I'm in the same boat . Everything is growing and we get snow
Maybe it won't hurt the early stuff to much

      Your yard looks great

      Thank You Kevin and Delbert.
The spring plants should do ok Delbert, I'm just not sure about all the summer plants that got and early start because of the mild winter.

What a difference a few hours makes, heres an 11:30 am pic and a 5:30 one. The snow is gone but the freezing night temps are here until Thurs pm. At least all the trees and my lilacs are standing up straight now, it was a heavy snow.

under your cold frame you can add a couple 100 watt or halogen construction lights to add warmth. A trick used by boaters late season to keep the block from freezing. Hope you make it out unscathed!

      Update...
I covered all of my plant a week ago that started to come up early because of the warm Feb in attempt to save them from the cold. We ended up with 5 nights below freezing 3 of which were in the 20's with the coldest at 23*. I finally uncovered everything Fri pm (6 days later) and was very happy to see most made it.

-Hydrangeas didnt fare to well, they were covered with new leaves and ALL leaves froze even though they were covered w/ 2 layers of heavy duty canvas.
-Hosta (pic below) and elpephant ear was piled w/ mulch and covered w/ black plastic bins, the hosta actually grew about 6" and popped through the mulch while covered.
-All Tiger lilies, clematis and climbing hydrangea did well under cover.

The Whisteria arbor (to big to cover) was a complete loss. As its happend many times before so I knew it was coming, it's so sad knowing what I and all the bees will be missing when it blooms (pic below of last yrs full bloom and this yrs frozen buds).
