      sterilizing pond water

I am beside a mountain stream in northern nsw australia. I am building a mud pond and i want to use the stream water to refresh the pond.
The water is clear and we use it for drinking. Should I sterilize the stream water (with an above ground pool with chlorine) before putting the water into the mud pond to kill any parasites etc.

I don't think that that is necessary. A continuous flow through would be the best possible situation for the koi, but due to the restrictions in Australia about keeping, importing, etc, I would be more concerned with sterilizing the outflowing water to be sure that no spawn get into the stream.

Thank you for your comments, the mud pond will only be used for grow out etc. and drained every year.

I've used untreated mountain river water for 16 years for my koi ponds with no problems.
