      Showa?

      Just got a new koi, don't expect much out of it cause it was only $25 but I think it's a Showa because the beni seems to wrap down... It has a red head. Is that bad? Here are some pics

      It is not the wrapping of the beni, but the wrapping of the sumi, that is typical of the showa. Sanke have more of a stepping stone pattern to the sumi, as demonstrated on this koi. The sumi color does not look very inky in the pictures as is expected in a sanke, so may not be a great sanke.
