Great thread and thanks for sharing Marilyn your info. As mentioned I've learned alot as well. My intex pool did get very hot and many lower quality tosai had beni break up.

Huge thanks to Marilyn for the info and to you all who have also been following this thread. I'll update it soon in the next few weeks with pics now that our joke of a winter feels like it's coming to an end lol.
I really hate that this fish turned out this way, but such is the nature of the hobby. I was draining & refilling my QT tank to make room for the new arrivals and decided to grab some shots of this Sanke to show how the beni is receding on the head pattern. Here's a pic that shows the beni loss the best:
Is the general consensus still to rehome this koi based on the beni loss we see above?
Also idk why my photos continue to upload sideways
Decided to post pictures of both Sanke that experienced beni loss in this thread since I would rather not start a new thread knowing I'll be rehoming the INC Sanke. Here are picture of her from November 2016, last year & one taken Monday as well for comparison's sake:

Not sure what to say, but got to love new arrivals. I'm ready for mine too and then maybe I'll stop stalking the PSKoi sale page. I keep second guessing my selections but pleased with them enough not to have picked up more with the stalking...yet.
Did the beni loss happened during the cooler months? I am wondering because my experience with beni loss has always been during the time when the water is warm or the temperature swings are big.
Kevin & audioenvy: I agree with you both on rehoming to make room for new arrivals. These two were show winners for me and I'm sure they would've continued to improve with age as well sadly. My last two rounds of tosai from Russ are starting to reflect how much my eye has grown (prior to this last trip, tried to fight the urges lol..)
Hey abuchi, this beni loss occurred around August 2017 when air temps were well into the mid to upper 90's & being gone for nearly a week or so let my temps approach the upper 80's unfortunately. When I got back, the INC Sanke had gross yellow skin & her beni had been obliterated. The Taniguchi held up better, but the head pattern had the same beni loss you see in the pics above. Cooler months saw their skin improve, shiroji whiten again & prevented any further beni deterioration.
I honestly thought about it because she does have an awesome frame and the same long body type that my INC Showa has, but I would rather make room for a similar or better quality Sanke & call it a day. Besides, her beni was strong enough that I bet a few patches would stick around and constantly hurt my feelings lol
