Turmeric
Customers are chaffing at the bit for organic turmeric and the plants have done wonderfully in our hot, humid, wet summer! Many pots have rhizomes, normally subterranean, porpoising above the soil...often a sign that there are so many below the new ones forming are pushed up. You can see the pot is buckling from the growth...and these are fairly sturdy, Nursery Supply Classic 15 gal pots.
The other encouraging progress? I set up a staggered planting routine and while some plants are heading to harvest, others are just heading into bloom, so the harvest will be a protracted one. Point is, the plants have ten month growth cycle and then a two month dormancy....but it is an internal clock and not tied to temperature or day length. It now looks as though by using a new planting protocol, I will be able to harvest year round and not face the glut of a single harvest.
