Looking good. I have some that I planted several years ago. This is the first year that the fruit is developing nicely without falling off before developing. This is also the first year they bloomed early, which may be the reason they are doing well. The blooms are huge, fragrant and look a lot like Epiphyllum blooms. Most of mine have the white fruit, but I have one "graffiti" variety which is red.
Gophers are a big problem here and they seem to love the roots. I've lost about half of them to gophers.
A picture from 2014 of some fruit (two varieties).

Growing in pots is a good idea. A large pitahaya farm near us grows them in pots sitting directly on the ground. I thought that was strange... but now I understand why.
There is a Pitahaya/Dragon Fruit Field Day coming up on 9/16/2016 sponsored by San Diego and Ventura ag extension offices. Entry includes pitahaya variety and ice cream tasting, 5 cuttings, and education on how to grow and market. A bit too far for me to attend and I'm not selling them commercially. Just want enough for the family to enjoy. For most Americans they are an "acquired taste". Wonder how many people here have tasted one?
