I have not tried the Growstone products to see if they hold up in a shower....unlike Cermedia MP2C. Some folks in the UK said that both it and Crystal Bio did pretty well. I think I would definitely want a water distribution box over this media and not blast it with a spray bar.

I reloaded my shower with H-1 Chinese ceramic media and restarted the shower since we are having such a warm winter and early spring. I guess it will be months before I can tell if there will be any erosion problems. Kevin Pham said he did not have such problems. But H-1 does cost more than twice the price of Growstone products per volume.

So I'm researching the whole shower filter, so many different options. My question would be would it be good to fill all the tiers with say the Bio house Media from seaside..? And my other question would be do you clean this media, or lightly rinse it off? Sorry if these are dumb questions, still trying to grasp the concept.

My experience has been if you flow enough water, 2000 gph per cubic foot of surface area your media will stay clean. So if you have 4 by 1 foot trays you would want to flow 8000 gph.

When it's brand new, a rinse before putting it in the showers is advantageous. It just knocks off any powder and sand from shipping.
When it's mature, there won't be a need to rinse it off, unlike the block type of media. I will say that I find it useful to keep sunlight very low on shower filters or algae can build up in them. When my showers were in trays I bought a cheap 90% sunblock shade cloth for them. It worked great, kept the sunlight to a minimum and let air circulate.

Still learning as I go but y'all can call me Marilyn

my shower has been running for about a month now. my Japanese matting is starting to get algae on top tier, so time for the sunfavric.

I'm using 3 different types of media on the lower 2 tiers
