I know a lot of people are saying just too steam the green beans for the most nutrients and serve them aldente or what ever I say bull they taste like water that way cook them long and slow until they are almost wrinkled OMG talk about flavor. Gray Cat and I use them from Allen cannery and they sell shelly beans also if you have never tried them. We used too can are own but since Mom Died we dont do that. So I just get mine from a can. i have a farmer friend that used too sneak over too Moms and take a few bushels of them and put them on her front porch and sometimes he would drop off a dozen or so cantaloups and water melons. He really took good care of my parents. He would call them and tell them the field corn was dry enough so they could go pick it and take it too the mill and have corn meal made. It does not even compare too store bought at all. They used too always have 50 or more pounds of cornmeal in the freezer. I sure miss those days.

I know tobacco Mosaic Virus is bad, my dad smokes but lucky he isn't around, so that is good. I had a distant family member one of those that knows everything, and he told me to spray my plants with tobacco water to kill bugs. I told him about Mosaic virus, I'm not sure if he likes my correcting him, but I didn't want him spreading that around.

I will have to try Romas. We have only grown Pinto beans once, but we used them as dried beans. I do have Wax beans in.

My brother is raising Turkey Red wheat next year, he is planting this fall if all goes as planed. And he is going to set up a small mill, here on the farm. The old wheats have quite a nice market these days.

I will remember that with the green beans.

I would like to start by saying no animals were hurt in the building of energy to post this post.

Even in the high tunnel everything has really slowed down, so not much going on other than being very behind. A lot of plants are long spent, but I haven't had the time to get them out.
And I have even started on the new high tunnel.
If I am not at work, I am working rebuild the engine in my sisters car, and if not that I am helping my brother get his farm equipment working so he can get his wheat planted.
It has been non stop here for a while.
I will try to get an update post in the next day. But warning, it will not be very pretty!

Well I put out poison for a few weeks, now I have started setting traps, and I think I finally got the rats down. The field rats really came out of the wood work in the fall, once they knew all the produce was there. But they are now under control and I ordered 6 more traps, so I will keep those set all the time.
I started getting everything cleaned up, and read to start planting. But noticed my cat's not doing well, so I spent most of the afternoon at the vet.

Fred (the cat) couldn't have gotten any poison, he is an indoors only cat. But he is now 17 years old, and he is starting to have health problems.
I really prefer trapping for that reason though, I also worry about secondary poisoning. We have owls and a lot of hawks around, I don't want to kill any of them.

Wow, that's a lot! But those are in the greenhouse though, right?
I'm not sure if rain is good or bad for newly planted potatoes but it'd seem like a good thing?

The potatoes are are in the "Lower" garden, not it the high tunnel. These are just some early ones, planted from last years crop. We have 150lb of seed potatoes coming for the next planting.
We plant our potatoes on hills, so the rain is fine my me!
