The first one is a Long Fin Lemon Hariwake and the second is supposed to be a Taisho Sanke. Both appear past their prime and are very poor representatives of their varieties. Sorry.

That appears to be about right, based on what I can see in the pics. If you give them really good conditions, there's no reason that can't happen.

I just finish rebuild my pond. It is 2000 gal with 3 barrels diy filter. I want to buy 2 more from him making it 4 koi total in 2000gal pond after my filter mature a bit more. What would you say is a fair price range for these koi? I have to look for other source if I been getting bad deal on them. They are all 20+ inch koi.

I wouldn't spend my hard earned money on this quality of fish, especially if I only was planning on keeping 4 koi in 2000gal of water. To speak rather frankly/honestly, unless you personally find beauty in any of these, there really of no "value" at all. I think you could find 6 or so smaller, much younger koi that you could truly enjoy watching to develop over the years to something that would be a much more enjoyable experience. But, that's just me. Please enjoy the hobby for what it means to you personally. You're the one that looks at these or other fish in your pond daily. You have to find joy in that, not any of us.

Thanks for your input. BTW, how can you tell the age of the koi? What you saw in those koi that tell you they are old?

The skin/fin condition. The skin is flat/dull like cotton linen rather than shiny/silky with great sheen and depth.

Thank you for great info. I'll have something else to look for next time I buy.
