      Leaf trap to pump adapter.

So as I was attempting to put my plumbing together when I got to the leaf trap and was stumped, after taking it to the hardware store and figuring out nothing fit I bring my question here. What kind of adapter does it take from leaf trap to the pump. I thought it was just a standard thread but its not. It needs to be 2" Thanks again.

Depending on your pumps intake size, you need one of these:

      https://www.dreampond.com/leaf-trap-...s-x-2-mpt.html

      https://www.dreampond.com/leaf-trap-...1-1-2-mpt.html

You won't find these at your big box stores.

It also depends on the brand pump you have and whether it's 1 1/2" or 2" and if it's a male or female thread. The Sequence and Performance pro both have female threaded fittings on many of their pumps. Oh, and you can buy the Waterways leaf traps with either 1 1/2" or 2" fittings on both ends or the combo unit with 1 1/2" to pump and 2" to incoming pipe.

Yeah My pump is a esm2500 and I didn't even think about connecting straight to the inlet of the pump lol. The pump has a 2" male inlet, now the pump came with some connectors that look like if you took some pvc threaded unions and used half and those will slip over regular 2" PVC. Now looking at all your guys posts it looks like Traitimkh8 link is probably the fitting since the priming pot is a waterways brand one. Thanks a ton guys!

That priming pot will screw directly onto the ESM 2500.

Do you guys put teflon tape on the thread of the intake where the leaf trap attaches too? Or will it not matter since it has a rubber gasket/washer that goes in there.

No I don't use anything but the gasket. I've found an auto oil filter wrench is the perfect size to
tighten the large coupling on the leaf trap/priming pot.

I use this one, not the strap styles or anything complicated:

Cool thanks! Update on the pump got everything set up and ran a test run. Ran smooth but had some leaks more than likely my pvc unions need to be tightened some more, but the only thing that had me perplexed was it was looking like I was getting air in my pump since I could see air bubbles come out in my filter. Anyone know what could be causing this. I didnt have my pond all the way filled and my swing valve was above water dont know if any of these reasons would cause it to take in air or not though. Thanks again!

Could be a few reasons for an air leak. Could be one of the fittings is loose, one of the pipe pieces isn't glued right, or the o-ring on the leaf trap needs to be lubricated a bit. Hard to say until you get your water level where it should be. I would also suggest once you get the water level up, shut off the pump and open the leaf trap. Fill it again to the top with water and start the pump back up. If it continues to suck air, then you have a leak somewhere on the suction side of the pump. Check the unions, both between the leaf trap and pump and also the union leading directly into the leaf trap.

Hmmm Ill have to try that, as for the priming pot after I stopped the system I tried to open it but water came gushing out from what Iam assuming is pressure then I quickly closed it again, will it do this again if I fill up the pond to the required level?

No, that has nothing to really do with it. Did you install any type of valve (check or ball) on the output of the pump? If not, that's your answer. The water is backflowing because there's nothing to keep it from doing so.

I have a ball valve on the out flow, so I should close the ball valve when I open the leaf trap then?

An advantage of a mechanical stage (sieve, RDF, static bed) before the pump....no need a leaf trap to protect the pump impeller.

If the pump is below pond level and/or has filters holding water above it and no check valves, when you open the leaf trap (priming pot)
it will flow out when opened. Close the valves before and after the pump to isolate it to prevent the water from coming out the leaf trap.
