      2016 Showa Spawn

My water is 71 deg today . it's way too early . it's not time but my female is acting funny ,
I put in the spawning brushes but I hope it doesn't happen tonight
We got lows around 38 for the weekend coming up

Wow that's warm. My water has only gotten up to 59 F. My wife said that today, several males were following the female that I want to use in the spawn this year. But she was focused only on food. There was no pushing, and it did not last long.

False alarm , no spawn last night, i hope putting the brushes in killed the mood she was in.
she needs to wait at least a month , I'm going to leave the brushes in until the water cools back down

i just about have my stock tank flowing so i will be ready when the day comes

Still no spawn yet , my water is 65 degs and every one is eating good.
Mid April would be soon enough for me for the spawn.

I made this trickle shower for the fry tank today , I like how it's working .

I like the trickle shower! I made a similar one a couple of weeks ago and used some volcanic rock inside to increase the bio capacity. Is that just fly screen on the outlet pipe?

I find it amazing that your water would be 12 degrees warmer. I've got 53 degrees right now. I'd like for them to spawn by the end of April, but we'll see.

Well Matt we had some early 80 deg weather that shot it up.
Any time this month would be good for me and them

Nice trickle tower for the fry tank! I'll have to use that idea for my next fry project. Yes, I agree you may need to rethink the intake screen if the fry get sucked in.

The screen is fine enough it's just the joints that can let a few through , some do make it down too the next two ponds before the pump could grind them up

I raised it up to get a little more air on the last tray

That's a great looking filter you made up. My sarrases fry are already two weeks old. But we don't have winters here.

Hmm ... those seem like the right conditions Delbert ... shouldn't be long now. My water had warmed to 65 yesterday, and a storm came through with high winds and a 1/4" of rain. That's a little cool, but last year they spawned under conditions that were kind of similar. They did not do it this time though.

Tonight they came in and ate good , it's the first time they ate with spawning ropes in the pond !
I hope it a sign of approval

That's a nice looking couple. I like the way the thick sumi is placed here and there on them. Our water went the other way, cooling 3 degrees to 62.
