I second that guess on Isa, but if it isn't I'd take a shot in the dark and say Dainichi (doubtful, but just guessing lol) as potential breeders for this koi. As for my thoughts, I like this koi! Beni seems pretty consistent in color, sumi looks ink-like, pattern is attractive, good skin, from what I can tell the body conformation seems pretty nice and this fish is also pretty tall too. If anything, I wouldn't mind having something like this in my collection lol!

Believe or not, my dealer told me Ogata does use dainichi parents to breed.

From what I've read, Ogata offers a vast selection of koi in varying price and quality level ranges. I haven't seen very many high quality koi from this breeder while shopping around within my preferred price ranges so I wonder how this koi stacks up, since it appears to be of a pretty nice quality. My two Ogata young ones are pretty much pet/pond grade (beni kumonryu & doitsu sanke), but I'm interested in watching their development as a learning experience.

Yup same here. I don't know how many Ogata tosai I have owned over the years and only a few made the benching. But this time I'm going to find better luck with 2 yrs that raised by them for a fraction of the cost compare with other top dogs. this one is decent but no where near the top quality for show and I'm only showing to friends, hehehe.

This is a basic quality fish with a very boring pattern. I never would have thought Isa, let alone Dainichi, but Ogata makes sense.
people like to vehemently defend their purchases and find it incredulous that anything could be better

I agree, Ogata fish won't hold up against better breeders "average" stock. That's why, for the most part, the prices are cheaper than other breeder's stock. This one doesn't excite me either. Rather a "static" pattern. Also, the dorsal ridge, when out of water, shows a bit of a "flat" look to the skin/color.

Many breeders use other breeder's stock for breeding purposes. Ogata also used Omosako Shiro parents years ago to infuse that quality line to his own Shiro stocks. Yet, they still don't grow like the Omosako fish do.

They also buy fingerlings stocks from other breeders of various "off main" varieties to fill out the desires from dealer customers who prefer to buy lesser grade stocks to fill their store tanks with colored up "eye candy".

Nice fish. Couple black specks. With the red was a little deeper red. I don't think this koi is done by a long shot. Feed a little color enhancer and grow him up

Sorry, but this one has body conformation issues. The "pollywog tail" jumps off the page. The sumi looks great and the beni is mostly homogenous, but the body is short/fat. Also, what is that brownish looking stuff just to the left of the dorsal fin in the shiroji?

It is fat for sure with all the buffet lately. I hope over winter the body will have sometime to cut back to gets lean and fit bit better. If not it is what it is. Some koi eat like pig and some dont.
