thank you Russ,
when you are saying it looks more Yamabuki, is it because it more gold than orange? this fish came out of the mud and into inside holding tanks, am told should change over the next 5 weeks or so with real sun light.. and also was told it will darken up when the temps go up.. what are your thoughts on this?

wanted to compare to yamabuki

I like the blue fish in the very first picture. The body shape is a little non traditional, but wow, what a nice big head on that one!
I don't see the blue fish, but I think I see where it was "purpled out" of the pic I see in post one. It looks like I'm missing a post or two from the conversation: post 2 replied to an answer that Russ gave, but I don't have his original answer. Anyway, I would be interested in seeing the two types side by side. In fact, I think that would be an educational exercise in general to have two fish compared by the people who have expertise on this forum, and get their comments about why one is a little better or worse than the other one.
Meanwhile, without being able to assess the fine points, I do like the color of your fish, and I like the pectoral fins too.

I like the color on this koi and think it will darken up to be a more traditional Orenji when it gets bigger.
I have a big concern about the fish, though. The right side of the koi seem to be bulging out a little bit, about half way down.
That might become more of a problem as she gets older, much more so than her color.
It is apparent in both pictures.
he said its a nice fish and good sheen, but looked more yamabuki.. then posted a pic of a orengi that was deeper orange.. and maybe mine look more yellow.. so I posted it with some yamabuki that were more yellow and it made mine look darker.. then his pulled his post..
but I would like to more about how the colors with go over time.. maybe I should buy a yamabuki ... hmmm

well, I don't think the body has bulked up to much.. but has picked up a few inches in the length department.. and its held its sheen ,, nice and bright..
as you can read Russell Peters and I have had a debate on the color.. well I pulled the wife into this now.. (non koi lover) she says GOLD to a yellowish in color.. very little orange .... hmm.. what do you all think??
