      Chagoi question

I have been reading a lot and would like to get a chagoi as one of my first additions once my pond is complete. I love big koi and also have read how they are generally one of the more friendly and less skittish fish. In addition I read this would help the other koi feel more comfortable. My question is, I have seen chagoi, butterfly chagoi and ginrin chagoi. Do all of these have equal chances of having the characteristics I am looking for. I would assume it depends a lot on the bloodlines they come from also.

Not all chagoi will grow large. A lot will but some won't.

In general, look for one with lighter color, large head, and head/body free of specks. Also look for one with creamy and glowing skin.

If I want a ginrin and also look for the above characteristics is the potential equal, or does breeding the ginrin into it lower the size and or friendly potential?

On average, ginrin fish are smaller. However, that doesn't mean ginrin chagoi will not grow large. There are many examples of very large ginrin chagoi. You will just have to talk to your trusted dealer to find out the odds for a particular bloodline.

That is what I assumed, but I wanted to hear from someone who knows. I won't be getting any fish till spring anyway.

My male chagoi is skittish and requires a lot of one-on-one attention to relax. I would look for a female if you can.
