Hi well Kohaku is in the history of Ki goi and was first produced back in the 1930's by croissing with kohaku and Asagi (white type) so a Back cross in breeding terms and you do get flesh colour ones, white ones and red ones ,as well as yellow as its all in the background genes .
Akemi ki goi -red eyed type also turn up in Kohaku spawns now and then as its no wonder Akemi Ki goi are used to improve the line as its a more pure type when breeding so better results are seen .
As most Ki goi have better body shape and size and don't carry black like Magoi and so less culling also ,so easy breeeding when using this type of koi for breeding .
I also get them turn up in Shusui breeding as the Asagi gene is there ,and can produce some intresting koi ,like white Doitsu Akemi shiro goi and red akemi doitsu.

I think you're right. Back in Fall of 2005 or 06, I purchased what I thought/and was told, was a Kigoi from Toshio Sakai's auction. At 14 months she was already 50+cm! He told me that the female oyagoi was a 110cm GinRin Chagoi. Since the name karashigoi has become to emerge a few years ago, I wonder if mine is a Kigoi or Karashi. Sakai said Kigoi, so I'll stick with that. She's more yellowish than yours, but, again, I've seen several variances of shades of yellow or mustard. But, if they decided to change the name of the variety, why are the Akame type still called Kigoi by breeders? I guess it really doesn't matter as long as it looks good in the pond.
yes karashi was named by konishi (joji) to a rather different color kigoi

i think it more likely became benigoi bro ck

sakai breed his karashi by crossbreed kohaku (sakai blood line, last year they used magnum blood line) and karashi (konishi blood line), so theres possibility beni spot will come or become a benigoi

I still think this is a Karashigoi.
Maraudo was the first breeder in Niigata to get Karashigoi Oyagoi from Konishi way more than 10 years ago. At the time the breed was unknown and wasn't popular among the breeders or the public. He was one of the first breeders (besides konishi ) that saw value in the breed. Konishi created the Karashigoi as we know it . Before him there was no Karashigoi. Just Kawarigoi that sometimes looked alike. Many breeders breed Karashigoi now all over Japan.

Love the skin, its luster and the fukurin on this koi! I guess it turned out to be more of a benigoi in terms of color then?

Another impressive fish from your pond. You should start a fish boarding business.
