      Green pond covering?

A pond owner just brought me a water sample ( how neat is my job?) I knew it wasn't algae but a plant. Learned something new. Do you know what it is?

It looks like the stuff some of my health nut friends drink for breakfast!
Seriously, I have no idea but I'm interested in the answer!

That looks like duckweed. Looks like tiny leaves floating on the surface with clear/white stems hanging down underneath each leaf...does that sound right? A closeup view of the plants might help.

It grows fast and takes over; some fish like to eat it.

Its smaller than the duck weed I have in my containers but it is called duckweed or more commonly, WaterMeal. When you feel it, its kind of gritty. Apparently ducks bring it in and it can suffocate your fish.

I have 2 sizes of duckweed, both are larger than that, The grow in different tanks or water gardens.
