      Cactu soil

Someone gave me a few cacti and I have no idea what soil type they need. I know they don't love peat/perlite, guessing it is because it holds too much water?

Miracle-Grow has a palm & cactus mix. I know our local Home Depot carries it.

I just use the regular with a little more sand added and maybe more perlite for fast draining

      Craig,

      I made a mix of:

      50% sand
      30% compost
      10% perlite
      10% peat

worked well for all the stuff DW didn't plant in pots with no drainage holes......

Thanks Gander, I added a fair amount of perlite to my bagged mix. Hopefully it helps. Hey John, I've tried the homemade recipes and it is the sand part that gets me....it just feels so heavy! I may try one using some aquarium gravel I have. Likely I didn't use enough perlite, but the only compost I have access to is the stuff from HD and I have never been a fan of it, also heavy. < g >
