Anchor worms in tank no fish anymore

      Fish anchor worms aquarium
I have an aquarium that is 75 gallons. I had a goldfish from store that in a couple days showed to have anchor worms. I tried parasite guard tetra didn't seem to get better so I got rid of the fish. I took the tank that had only water at this point and dosed with parasite guard stronger than rated. Added 16 pounds of salt and turned heater up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. It has been like this for a week now. How long will I need to leave it like this before I can be safe to do a water change. And try and add fish again? I just want to make sure this will kill all the parasites. If not my only other option is to bleach everything and then rinse and start over. Is my treatment good enough with medicine salt no fish and high temperatures?

I am going to move your thread to Salt and Fresh Water Aquariums, as I think it'll get more exposure there...

I believe Dimilin-X (diflubenzuron) will do the trick. A 8oz bottle was about $20 and treats 25,000 gallons so I think
you'll be covered. It says 2 doses 3-5 days apart will get them.

I have to ask, why not just buy Dimilin-X as opposed to trying to find something that has it in it
      or works like it?

I have an 8oz bottle that I bought and probably will never use... I'll ship you 4oz if you want, but then
you can only treat 12,500 gallons.

PM me your address and I'll have it on its way after the Holiday if it'll help.

Honestly I think most of the reason is marketing. Put something in a pretty package and call it
something cool and pet stores will carry it. This stuff comes in an ugly green bottle.

It's safe for aquariums. The instructions state:
"Non toxic to fish, plants or biofilter even at 10x recommended dosage."

I'll have it on its way asap...
Good luck and let us know how it works!

Diflubenzuron (Dimilin) is a controlled substance in many states because it is harmful to crabs, lobsters, and other shellfish. Unfortunately, some people dump chemicals in open drains, sewers, streams, etc. and it ends up in rivers or oceans where it does a lot of damage. So they limit access to licensed applicators. It is also used in greenhouses to control gnats.

I don't think having in an aquarium would be harmful to you unless you have an exoskeleton made from chitin. It works by inhibiting growth of the exoskeleton, thus preventing adults from developing.
